I guess I better get off
my high horse; seriously though, I love my mission! I have such good
news! First off, JON SCHMIT came to our mission! THE piano
guy! He was pretty funny, and I got a bunch of video as I was sitting in the
front row, and it was great! After Conference, we always get to sleep in a day
because we're all so exhausted. Later, our mission president treats us to something fun.
Usually it's a Disney movie, but they really surprised us this time! It pays
to have a mission president who seems to be friends with everyone. I'm
not even kidding! Jokes aside, I truly think it was inspired to have Jon Schmit because the
testimony that he and his wife bore really touched my heart and spoke
exactly to the trials that I have right now.
Other news, CONFERENCE!!
What a weekend! I feel like I need another hour just to talk about
it. Yes, I did get to announce this conference! (For those who don't
know, the TS missionaries get to hold up a sign, greet people in their own language,
and invite them to share the gospel with their friends.) I got to announce in
Lakenese! Just kidding, it was English. But I think the crowd had a good time
1. I was really excited and animated. 2. I stepped onto the microphone pole and it
almost hit me in the face; I just laughed 3 Only one of
the two English announcing sisters speak three times, and for some crazy reason
everyone in this crowd spread out in
front of me and started cheering when I went up for the third time. I didn't know
people were as excited as I am about me sharing the gospel!! :D
While we were contacting
people, we ran into a little boy named Mason. (I told him that that was a great
name!) He is doing a school project on Mormons and wanted to interview
us. We soon captivated his mother, Lisa, and his father, John. His little sister
who is 8 was soon listening as well. They had so many sincere questions
and suddenly it wasn't Mason giving us the interview!! In the end, they
all referred and we will be teaching them soon!! A Conference
Miracle!! They went away with proper materials (they had some anti stuff. It
was funny because Mason only 10-12 years old even said, "and this is what
this website that didn't like the Mormons said...") I'm so excited for
them.
Another miracle happened while
we were in the North Visitor Center. I had a feeling I should go to the
bathroom even though I didn't need to. When I came out, Sister Crookston had
started contacting a mother and her daughter that were sitting there waiting.
The daughter was reporting to the MTC (TODAY) and had a lot of questions. We
answered, we taught them, and they gave us some people they would like for us to
teach. It became a miracle when a young, college-age man, came rushing to use the payphone. I felt we needed to
talk to him, but was in the middle of the conversation with the mother. Sister Crookston and the daughter started talking to him; it turns out he had just found out that his Uncle, who was like a father to him, had just passed away. He found out only minutes
before and was desperate to call
Mexico and find out what happened. He dissolved into tears, and the four of us
were able to comfort him. It was tender to see how we each had experiences and
thoughts that we could share. One of the things I shared was a scripture that
has helped me in the past, 2 Nephi 9:6 " 6 For as adeath
hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful bplan
of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of cresurrection,
and the resurrection must needs come unto man by reason of the dfall;
and the fall came by reason of etransgression;
and because man became fallen they were fcut
off from the gpresence
of the Lord." In the end, we parted friends and he thanked us so much. He
was very sweet and said the four of us were meant to be his angels. Here is
where it gets even better: his family are converts to the church, and where did
they first start meeting with missionaries? Temple Square. Wow.
Conference was great. The
anti's weren't too bad this year! I only heard their screaming every once
in a while, and this is the first year they haven't tried to single me
out. I believe I discovered the secret. I talked to my friend, the homeless lady
named Evelyn. She said that as she walks down to ask for money, she suggests that faithful members should tell the critics how they feel. They do, and the antis get occupied with them rather than
screaming. With a toothless grin she told me, "I think I got to listen
to the most of conference this year!!" I had a giggle with her over that
one. There were just so many miracles. It was a little different this year. For
Oct conference, we set a goal as a mission based off the companion goals of how
many baptism we wanted to attain before the next conference, and how many
potentials we needed to get that goal. We had a goal of 415 baptisms and
drumroll please.....we had 436!!!! Happy day. Our next goal is 487. Boo yah!
It's amazing to see how far my mission has come. To think that shortly before
my mission, they didn't even count baptisms, and that in the beginning we
usually only baptized around 30-40 a month. Those days are past for sure and those
numbers are important because they are our brothers and sisters! Heavenly
Father is enabling us to find and to teach His children in a way He has not
before. The work is hastening, and it surging onward! We just need to do our
part so we can join with the Savior when He says, "The work is finished."
In other news, my trainer,
(First companion) Sister Danilakis is engaged!! And Alana (the sister that I taught that got baptized from Scotland) got married this
past weekend. She got married in between conference sessions. AND!!!! We have been
emailing, she said that her Mom asked how she felt
about the church. Alana (SO proud of her!) bore her testimony. Her mother then
said that she also believes that the church is true, and has asked to be
baptized! She will be baptized in 3 weeks!! Happy, Happy day.
Love Forever and Always,
