Week #47

Hello Y'all!!

Well....life is crazy here in Arizona! This has been a hectic week. I'll just start updating from getting here. I rode the airplane into AZ, and the two men sitting next to me (I was in the aisle) and one, Mike, was from Colorado and had an ex-wife who was LDS. And the other man, Leo, had lived in SLC for 40 years and is not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Needless to say, it was a very interesting conversation. But I feel like they went away with better understandings. Mike was pretty interested in learning more, if Leo wasn't such a downer I think he would have accepted missionaries. But it's okay, planting seeds!

When I arrived I was put in a trio, Sister Parker and Sister Allred. Sister Parker will be going home at the same time I go back to TS. And she's leaving and Sister Allred will be staying with me. I'm kind of glad in a selfish way because I have fallen in love with the members here. They are so good.

We're teaching a man named Anon from Saudi Arabia. He's SO cute! He doesn't speak the best English, but he insists on feeding us and when we arrive unannounced, he makes us sit there and he goes and changes into his very best clothes for us. He feeds us and treats us like queens. He's Catholic and Sister Allred's brother speaks Arabic and will translate via skype tonight. Sounds familiar like TS right?!

Micheala is getting baptized this weekend. She's very prepared and I love her! Please pray for her. Lots of craziness opposing baptism.

Tony is getting baptized on the 27th! He's very thoughtful, I like him!

We were street contacting and met a boy who said he was deaf. Apparently he was hit in his ear in a cage fight. ( I don't think he's really deaf, but I started signing and speaking to him at the same time.) Needless to say, we have an appointment to teach him this week! His real name is David, but he goes by Eloy.

I love AZ. It's hard because I got super sick. Ear aches (ear infections?), throat, cough, everything. I slept for 16 hours...Never slept that much in my life! Still very much not feeling well. And now I'm preaching the gospel in my sexy voice I inherited from Mom. (Thanks by the way.:D) I'm pretty sure the members I met yesterday for the first time think I'm a converted smoker, because they alternate between either startling and put on a smile I'm sure wondering why the heck I sound like this or one was laughing into his knee when I started talking to someone else. Pretty funny.

I miss Temple Square so much. But I'll love it here. And I'm doing my best to change myself to be a AZ tempe missionary. That's what I am now, and I need to move on and change myself. Not easy. But it's what God wants me to do so it's worth it.

A number of you have been writing me emails encouraging me. Thank you so much for your love, advice and support! It means more to me than you know. However, I just want to let you know that as missionaries we're only supposed to email family, so if I don't email back, that's why. If you include an address, I'd love to respond back to you in that way. Thank you again for your kindness and prayers, it means alot to me.

Brielle, go GET EM GIRL!!!!! I am so stinkin' proud of you in your efforts. Thank you for writing me! That was so thoughtful. If you have any questions or anything about courses, tactics whatnot let me know. And you break all the records you want or can! Including mine. It is my goal in life to be the best I can, and whenever I can to lift others to achieve more than I. So proud of you!

That was a little sore to hear that Mead won the competition. Gurg. I don't like Mead very much, but it mostly just stems from XC and Track. But we won't get started on that. Lets' go CVMB SMASH EM! ....In a Christlike missionary esk way of course. :D

Mom, can I get Cien's address? I would love to write her a thank you note. The bedding was so great and very cute (she does know you, all the sheets are fleece!) And it was definitely a cherry on top to have the bread and jam. I tore into that like there was no tomorrow! That is exactly what I would have wanted. And the same goes for the bread that you sent me.

I love you all! I only have 30 min now so shorter emails. The Church is true! I love you!

This is the address I'd like mail at. Only for 5 weeks from today though. The other address is my mission home, this is my address I'll get mail from everyday. The other could take a long time for me to get in addition to snail mail

Love,
Sister Lake

P.S. Sister JoAnn Edman, the wife of the Tempe Arizona Mission President emailed home this picture of Eden, along with this cute email:

"Sister Lake has been in the office a couple of times and she is a pleasure to have serving in Arizona.  She is a wonderful missionary!

Have a great day!"
